Library

The main goal of the VCS library program is to promote the love of reading and to teach students to become life-long readers. With close to 20,000 volumes, our sunlit library serves as both an academic and social center for the school. Early and Middle Years classes have scheduled weekly library times where literature appreciation is promoted through read-alouds. Library skills are taught to small groups of students who visit the library to conduct research. In addition to their in-school research projects, Upper School students are welcome to use the library after school as a quiet place to work on homework.

From the earliest years through the sixth grade, children make weekly visits to the library and select books for check out. The seventh and eighth grades come as needed for research projects and to select material to read with their Book Buddies, which is a program that pairs younger students with Upper School students who read to them on a weekly basis.
