Letter From Head

When I first visited Village Community School over ten years ago, I was struck by how deeply committed its students were to the intellectual life within its classrooms.  Since then, as the head of school, I have come to understand just how VCS brings out that commitment in its students by creating a close-knit and diverse community engaging each and every member as an active participant, an enthusiastic learner and a responsible citizen.

Students pursue knowledge eagerly and seriously because the integrated curriculum, with social studies at its center, makes sense to them and builds on their intuitive understanding of the world, even as it opens up new vistas for them.  With an abundance of hands-on, discovery learning challenges, as well as diverse pathways to learning, they thrive on taking ownership of the concepts and the skills they need for the present and for the future, taking pride in their accomplishments and striving for ever-greater mastery.

Families find a home at the school in the inclusive environment that encourages them to be a contributing presence in a wide variety of ways.  The school believes that students flourish when the home and the school form a partnership on their behalf.  Families that are involved in school life typically feel more connected, have more fun, and know that what they do makes a difference in a place that matters to their children.

Every staff member at VCS is involved in educating students as a role model, a nurturer and a teacher, inspiring students’ learning and living.  Faculty are gifted in their ability to challenge and to excite children to delve deeply, to seek widely and to collaborate with adults and peers alike to create, to master and to share as twenty-first century students.

I invite you to explore our VCS web site as an introduction to us.  I hope it will inspire you to come and experience us first hand, whether you are a prospective family, a prospective teacher, or a friend.  We look forward to welcoming you.

Sincerely,

Eve K. Kleger
